Vedic Mantras

A Mantra is a relegious or mystical syllable or poem, typically from the Sanskrit language. Mantras originated in the Vedic religion of India and became an integral part of the Hindu tradition.

It is beleived that these mantra when pronounced in the right way and certain technique, then one can put in tune with the cosmos. Each mantra or word is asound pattern that suggests to the mind the meaning inherent in it and the mind imediately responds. It is a means of getting in touch with our self. Mantra is said to be the phonetic mainfestation of the supreme reality. When recieted properly they protect humans from different malefic effects of other evil elements. Similarly mantras corresponding to different planets when receited properly is considered to protect the person from the bad effects of that planets.
It is said that the Guru is the best person to find the mantra suitable for the seeker. This same mantra knowledge gives rise to different sciences according to the angle of vision with which we approach it. Ayurveda, Vedic, Astrology, Yoga, Vedanta all arise from it and represent different ways of looking through it. Mantras start a powerful viberation which corresponds to both a specific spiritual and energy frequency and a state of consciousness in seed form (Bija).
Bija (Seed) Mantra 
The single syllable sounds. Five main (Bija) seed mantra are:
OM: It is most important of all mantras. All mantras generally begin and often also end with OM. It means yes and affirms and energies what ever we say after that. Thats why all mantra begin with OM. OM is also a mantra of ascent and causes our energy to rise upwards into the infinite. It connects us with the guidence power of the inner guru.
HRIM (Pronounced Hreem): It is the prime mantra of the Great Goddess and ruler of the world and hold all her creative and healing powers. HRIM governs over the cosmic magnetic energy and power of the soul and causal body.
KRIM (Pronounced Kreem): It is the great mantra of Kali, the goddess of energy and transformation. KRIM grants all spiritual facilities and powers from the arousing of kundalis to opening the third eye. It is the main mantra of Yoga Shakti.
HUM (Pronounced Hoom): It is the mantra of the inner fire or thermogenic force. It is a Shiva mantra as well as mantra of Chandi, the firce form of kali. It is used destroy negativity and create great passion and vitality.
SHRIM (Pronounced Shreem): It is a mantra of love, devotion and beauty, relating to Lakshmi, the goddess of beauty and devine grace. It takes us to the heart and gives faith and steadiness to our emotional nature.
SAMPUT : These are some specific words used in the mantra. They can be used at the start, middle or end of a mantra. The Samput has great Shakti and should be used very carefully.

AIM: Sarswati Bija Mantra: Makes proficient in all branches of learning.
KALEEM: Kamraj Mantra: Fulfiles ones desire.
DUM: Durga Bija Mantra: One gets whatever one wants.
